For this week's interview as part of the series 'Know a Member' we have Mr. Devendra Chaplot. Please continue reading below to know what he has to say. 1. What was your biggest take-away from the training at IIT? Ans. 'Confidence'. Nothing seems impossible. 2. What is your dream? What do you want to be in 15-20 years from now? Ans. My dream is to solve core problem of Artificial Intelligence: making computer as intelligent as humans. Of course I can't do this alone, I want to be a major contributor in solving this problem. 3. In your nearly a year stay here in Korea, what has been your most memorable experience? Why? Ans. There are many memorable experiences in Korea, but the most memorable will be joy of achievement: be it publishing scientific papers, filing patents or going to research conferences to present your work. Reading your name as citation in other papers gives immense satisfaction. 4. How is working in a Korean company like? Ans. Working in a Korean company is interesting and unique experience. They are amazingly systematic and organised. I have seen some people face problems due to too much hierarchy, but I haven't faced them personally. 5. Any advice for new IIT graduates coming to Korea? Ans. You might face difficult circumstances here and when you do, try to make the best out of the situation, instead of just complaining or losing hope. Also, IIT graduates are really respected and valued here, don't be afraid to speak up your mind. Devendra Chaplot graduated from IIT Bombay in August 2014 with B.Tech in Computer Science and joined Samsung Electronics as a Research Associate in Software R&D Centre. He is passionate about research in areas of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing. He was awarded Honorarium from IIT Bombay for outstanding research work and 3 scientific publications during his Bachelor degree. He will be joining Carnegie Mellon University for his Masters degree in August 2015. Apart from research, he enjoys travelling, sketching and film-making. He was also featured as lead actor in Tata Sky Commercial for National Television.
